Video Tutorial: Modeling a Lotus Elise

Modelling a Lotus Elise by Blitzze

First of all, These are NOT for people who have never used 3dsmax before, you will need to know your way around Max's UI, Editable Poly and Modifiers. This is just to show how I used all these tools and created a car (come to think about it, this isn't much of a 'tutorial', it's really just a video of me making a car). The 'finished' result is hardly finished, as there are numerous accessories and tweaks that can be made. Bear in mind I had to rush through the whole process of creating the car, so a lot of parts will not be very accurate. I would advise you spend a lot more time checking everything is exactly where it's supposed to be.

I used a lot of hotkeys during this, and there's no audio so you may not know which tool I'm using, but chances are, it's among one of these: Hide Selected/Unselected, Unhide All, Create Poly, Cut, Attach, Detach, Weld Selected, Target Weld or Shift-Extrude. You have to know these tools well, along with: Inset, Extrude, Chamfer and heaps of others I've missed.

Materials and rendering are not covered in these videos, as I'm can't do either of them properly.

The blueprints can be set up by yourself (www.onnovanbraam.com has the one I used), or if you already know how and don't want to go through the whole process (or you simply can't be bothered), here's the scene with the blueprints set up. Either way, I'm not going to cover blueprint setup.

Anyways, good luck on your model! Be sure to post any questions or comments you may have on these tutorials.

You will need the DIVX codec for these videos and the Glue plugin.

The hosting is provided by Gibbz from CGTalk (where I originally posted this). Thanks a lot.

Modelling a Low poly Weapon by nnurgle

I have uploaded a video tutorial on how to make a low polygon game weapon. It uses divx 5.1, and is about 30min. The total size is 54mb.

to find it, go to the link below, and navigate through the folders, Video tutorials/3ds Max6/Low Poly Gun Tutorial. Download all 4 rar files, and use winrar to extract the .avi file.

It's my first one, so tell me what you think. If you like them, i have plenty of room in my online briefcase, i will try to fill it up

Very cool! I hope I'll be able to follow it without audio. It'll take a little while to download

Did you have to record the tutorials at 2:14 AM? Don't you sleep?

Seriously though, Great job on the tutorial! Its really helpful to watch someone methodically go about modeling a complex object, something I hope to attain.

You'll notice its 3:58 AM EST as I write this

I knew somebody was going to notice that, shouldn't have recorded it at such a high resolution.
Well, no, technically I didn't HAVE to record them at that hour Yes, I do sleep (occasionally)

Thanks though, remember: practice makes perfect

Thumbs up

Very nice, blitzze. It's always interesting and helpful to see other peoples techniques. I do have one small tip for you - set the self illumination of the materials on the image planes to 100, it'll make them brighter and clearer.
